6 DIY Homemade Air Freshener Ideas
We've had a Website Makeover!!!

Have you ever wanted to learn how to Decoupage with Mod Podge? Decoupage is the art or craft of decorating objects with paper cut-outs and Mod Podge is a water based glue that is applied to your cutouts to seal onto your art piece. Most common types of items to decoupage are jars, furniture, shoes, jewelry, etc. For this DIY Decoupage Project, I’m going to set my sites on decorating charger plates with my favorite classic rock bands, then repurposing them into wall art pieces.  I’m going to display my top 5 all time favorites, which are PINK FLOYD, THE BEATLES, JANIS JOPLIN, BLACK SABBATH & ROLLING STONES. I bought 8 silver charger plates at Goodwill for $1.99, Great deal!!!  There are endless materials you can use for your project, such as family & wedding photos, fabric, embellishments, decorative paper and so on…!

If you don’t know what a charger plate is, it’s a decorative base setting for which other dinnerware is placed on top for formal occasions, such as weddings, catered events and Holidays. (Bottom plate, shown in photo to the right.)

I’m not going to paint a bottom layer for contrast, my plates are silver and I’m happy with the color. So, before you begin this project, if you want to add contrast to your design other than it’s original color, be sure to paint it your chosen color and let it dry before going to the next step.

Using strips of painters tape, place in desired angles onto your plate. You can have bulky, thin or zig zag strips or none at all.

Spray paint your plates with any color you like. I chose Krylon Color Master, Flat White for mine. Once the paint is dry, slowly peel the tape off. This Krylon paint is my favorite, I use this for most of my painting projects. It has paint and primer, all in one can and dry’s so quickly.

You can decorate the entire plate to make an image collage if you desire, I chose to keep it simple with one photo for each plate. Now that the paint is dry, dip and scoop some mod podge onto the tip of the foam brush and apply to the back of the photo(s), then position onto the plate anywhere you choose.

Repeat the same step, but this time apply the mod podge onto the photo(s) and the entire top of the plate with a couple of layers, to completely seal everything. Make sure you don’t have any bubbles on your photo or air bubbles in the mod podge. Let it dry overnight…

Flip your plate face down, using Gorilla Glue or super glue – dab some glue onto each corner of the frame hanging bracket and position it in the center of the plate. Let dry completely.
