When I first started doing research on how to start my own blog, it was so overwhelming! I knew starting a Blog was something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, but didn’t know where to begin. Once my mind was made up, I started on my path to researching countless weeks on how to start a blog. I didn’t have any guidance along the way and I had so many questions. With all of the research I gathered, slowly but surely things were coming together and making sense.
These instructions below are for any kind of Blog, I hope this information helps! Please don’t hesitate, if you ever have any questions you may email me here.. Disclosure: Some of the links below are affiliate links, and at no additional cost to you, I will earn a commission if you decide to make a purchase. LET’S GET STARTED…
1) DOMAIN NAME
First, what do you want the name of your blog to be? Write down several names you are considering, once you come up with a name you truly love, head over to Bluehost to check to see if it is available by entering the name into the box below. It’s SUPER exciting to see your chosen name available!!
Tips for picking a domain name:
- Numbers – Try to stay away from numbers in your domain name. You will have to constantly explain to people “it’s 1 like the number” or “it’s one spelled out.”
- Avoid Hard to Spell – Try to stay away from things that are hard to spell.
- Make It Fun! – How many times have you heard the name of a company and said to yourself, “that is so creative.”
After you have picked your domain name, you will need to host your domain. Hosting is like renting space on the web to display your domain name. Bluehost is a great place for hosting. I’ve been using them for a while now, they are cheap, and they will give you your domain name for free if you host with them. Bluehost has technical support open 24/7 and they make everything a breeze to get started.
Once you’ve clicked to go to Bluehost to get started with hosting, just click on the green “Get Started Now” button.
Bluehost will automatically bring you to an account information and package information page. Choose your package and extra’s, if desired. Whichever package you choose, please keep in mind that Bluehost charges up front. But, no worries, they also have a money back guarantee if you’re not interested.
You will have to fill out your account information, your account information is self-explanatory, but …
Here are the package information settings I recommend:
*Note: The domain privacy protection will hide your address and phone number from being displayed to the public.
- I highly recommend some sort of backup plan for your blog. If not this one, then another. JUST DO IT:)
After your account information is completed, you will will be Congratulated by Bluehost and a confirmation email will be sent to your email. Then you will be asked to choose a password for your account.
